If trips to the grocery store are a challenge, many retailers and stores allow you to use your SNAP EBT card for grocery delivery and pickup.

"Where can I pay with EBT online?" Amazon, Walmart, and Target just some of the retailers that accept online EBT payments for SNAP-eligible food items.

With online EBT grocery delivery and pickup, you may be responsible for additional fees not covered by your SNAP benefits.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program—also known as SNAP—helps many older adults stretch their food budget each month. But what if just getting to the grocery store is a challenge?

If shopping trips are difficult due to your limited mobility, or if you lack easy access to transportation, you may be able to use your SNAP EBT card online for grocery delivery and pickup. These convenient options, typically available through an app or website, are offered by many major retailers and grocery stores across the country. They’re a great way to save time and get the food you need without having to set foot in a store.

Are you wondering “Where can I pay with EBT online?” Find out if your favorite major retailers, grocery stores, wholesale retailers, and food delivery apps accept EBT payments online for grocery delivery and pickup.

Groceries on Amazon and Amazon’s grocery delivery and pickup service, Amazon Fresh, now accept SNAP EBT cards nationwide. It’s important to understand that these are two distinct services.

Target also accepts a digital SNAP payment option. This allows customers to purchase SNAP-eligible grocery items on Target.com through the company's delivery service arm, Shipt. You must have a (free) Target.com account to place an order using your EBT card.

You can use your EBT card at online checkout just like you’d use a credit or debit card, and you can choose same-day Drive Up or Order Pickup options at no additional cost. Same-day grocery delivery is also available at Target.com for $9.99. Shipt members receive free delivery on orders over $35.

Walmart accepts SNAP EBT card payments for online grocery delivery and pickup in all 50 U.S. states. You can place an order by visiting Walmart.com or by downloading the Walmart app (you’ll need to create an account first if you don’t have one).

Free curbside pickup service at Walmart has a $35 order minimum; if your order falls below this amount you will be charged a pickup fee. For EBT grocery delivery, fees may apply and depend on whether you choose regular or Express delivery. Only eligible food items may be purchased with your EBT SNAP benefits at Walmart and pickup and delivery fees are not covered. You can pay these fees using your EBT cash benefits (if you have them) or your personal debit/credit card.

Yes. If you enjoy shopping at ALDI, you’ll be happy to know it accepts SNAP EBT payments for in-store purchases, grocery pickup, and delivery orders across all its locations.

The following retailers also offer EBT online grocery delivery and/or pickup. Check with your local store first to see which services are available in your area:

DoorDash is the latest app-based delivery service to welcome SNAP payments. The company joins others like Amazon, Instacart, ALDI, Target, and Walmart that already allow SNAP recipients to use their EBT card online to pay for grocery delivery and pickup.

To use your SNAP benefits on DoorDash, you need to create a new DoorDash account if you don’t have one. You can then add your EBT card information to your account and keep it safely stored there. When you’re shopping with the DoorDash app or website, look for stores and products featuring a SNAP label. One of the benefits DoorDash is offering to SNAP recipients is two free months of DashPass (normally $9.99 per month to use their delivery service).

You can also use your EBT card with Instacart, an online grocery delivery service, to buy groceries at SNAP-participating retailers for delivery or pickup. This applies in all 50 U.S. states. EBT card holders can also receive a discount on Instacart+ membership.

Instacart provides groceries through the following EBT SNAP retailers:

Like with Amazon, you'll need to create an Instacart account (or add your EBT card to your existing account) to order EBT grocery delivery or pickup. You can do this through the Instacart app or by visiting Instacart.com.

According to its website, all of Costco's warehouse locations accept EBT cards for SNAP-eligible purchases. However, EBT cards cannot be used to make purchases online at Costco.com.

Sam's Club also accepts SNAP EBT cards at its warehouses and with its Scan & Go service. But like Costco, it does not accept EBT cards for SamsClub.com (online) purchases.

Do food delivery apps like GrubHub take EBT? Not all. As mentioned above, DoorDash now accepts EBT SNAP benefits for fresh grocery delivery and pickup, but other food delivery apps such as GrubHub, Uber Eats, and PostMates do not. This is because these services primarily deliver hot, prepared food—which is explicitly excluded from food items covered by SNAP.

Roughly three out of five older adults who qualify for SNAP do not claim their benefits—an estimated five million people! Don’t pass up life-changing assistance that can help you eat healthier and stay independent for longer.

NCOA offers a free, easy-to-use online tool that can help you learn more about SNAP and find information to apply. Visit BenefitsCheckUp.org and enter your ZIP code to get started.
